Something is seriously wrong since children as young as 5-years-old undergoing bariatric surgery. Bariatric surgery consists of various types of weight loss surgeries.

Young children either receive a gastric band to reduce the size of the stomach, have a portion of the stomach removed, or have a stomach pouch attached to the small intestine.

The surgeries can lead to serious complications including severe malnutrition, internal bleeding, intestinal obstruction, shock, and blockage of arteries in the lungs.

Unfortunately this is linked to the consumption of a Western diet which supports obesity.
