Whistle Blowing California Cops Discriminated Against By Police Department
It becomes increasingly difficult to side with police departments because of the amount of corruption that is taking place within them. It appears they are turning into the biggest gangs in America and all people will fall beneath their feet, including police officers who stand up to the corruption.
Six officers from the Whittier, California police force have decided to sue the city[1] after being facing disciplinary actions for protesting the ticket quotas they were forced to maintain.
Officers Jim Azpilicueta, Anthony Gonzalez, Mike Rosario, Nancy Ogle, Steve Johnson and Cpl. Joseph Rivera repeatedly complained about being forced to maintain ticket quotas, a practice that is illegal.
Being forced to maintain ticket quotas is illegal under California Vehicle Codes 41600[2]. The California Vehicle Codes 41600 makes it illegal for any state or local agency to force officers to maintain ticket quotas by denying rank promotion or by imposing disciplinary purposes. The lawsuit stated the officers faced disciplinary actions that included unwarranted transfers, increased scrutiny and disparaging comments, and counseling sessions.
The officers stated:
“They say their “careers have been materially and adversely affected, and irreparably harmed” by the city.”
Azpilicueta and Johnson faced stiffer punishment which included a “supervisory review and performance improvement plan,” an officer Johnson was eventually the subject of an Internal Affairs review, and later suspended.
When you really stop to examine the police departments relationship with the city, it is in large part in place to bring revenue into the city on the back of its citizens. It is unfortunate that often times it is people of color and the poor who are targeted.
Whittier City Manager James Collier refused to comment, but offered a bland comment without denying the allegations:
The lawsuit is unfortunate and the city will determine the best course of action once an analysis of the lawsuit is completed.
