Wes Craven Dies At The Age Of 76 From Brain Cancer
Wes Craven’s battle with brain cancer ended on Sunday, August 30, 2015, when he passed away. Craven was one of the greatest and most influential writer/directors of horror films.
He developed the iconic Freddy Krueger character in his Nightmare on Elm Street franchise, and he is also responsible for the making of The Last House on the Left, The Hills Have Eyes, and Scream movies. Craven was responsible for giving many people a sleepless night.
The Hills Have Eyes was Craven’s first feature film that he made for $90,000 in 1972. The rape and torture movie was banned in many countries because of its extreme violence. The film still earned favorable reviews from critics and Roger Ebert called it “about four times as good as you’d expect.”
Craven did show he had a softer side in his direction of the movie Music of the Heart, the heart tugging story of a violin teacher in East Harlem who blessed underprivileged students with the power of music.
Even though Craven was outside of his horror genre, his film earned Meryl Streep an Oscar nomination.
He is still best known for and will be remembered for scaring the crap out of his audiences. Rest in peace and we are glad you don’t have face the pain of your cancer battle anymore… and please avoid Freddy if you can.
