WCRF International’s 6th Cancer Prevention Recommendation: Alcoholic Drinks
The World Cancer Research Fund International global research recommended against the consumption of alcohol, but did not outright exclude it because of its positive effect on heart disease under the right conditions.
For cancer alone World Cancer Research Fund International global recommended not drinking alcohol at all. Since the limited consumption of alcohol has been shown to positively effect heart disease in post menopausal women and groups age 40 and over, the organization wouldn’t totally exclude its use.
The consumption of any amount of alcohol increases the risk of five common cancers including mouth &throat, oesophageal, liver, breast, and bowel cancer.
If you do choose to drink, men should limit themselves to two drinks and women should limit themselves to one drink per day.
One drink consists of 10-15 grams of pure alcohol, which is about one shot glass. Consumption anything more than this has shown to have adverse effect on the heart and would negate any reason for supporting the consumption of alcohol.
