When we speak about vegan weight loss or weight loss in general, we are speaking losing fat. A whole food vegan diet is the optimal way to lose fat. When we think about losing weight we normally think about reducing our food consumption. We normally think about reducing our calorie intake.

With vegan weight loss, we don’t need to be concerned with eating less food or watching our calorie intake. On my vegan journey I lost 30lbs while eating 8-16oz of almonds a day, and that is a lot of fat. The 30lb vegan weight loss was a big thing for me because that brought me back to my optimal weight when I was an amateur boxer as a twenty year old. I am presently in my late forties and I am feeling pretty awesome. I am not an anomaly, as there are many vegans who have achieved some serious vegan weight loss eating a high calorie diet consisting whole food vegan fat.

We usually want to avoid fat to achieve weight loss, but fat in a whole food vegan diet has a different effect on the body than processed fat and fat in meat and dairy. Processed fat like hydrogenated oil has been well documented to be being detrimental to the immune system and our overall health. Consumption of foods containing hydrogenated and additive fat contribute to obesity.

Animal products, especially animal products made from factory farmed animals and those treated with additives and preservatives, introduce excess fat, cholesterol, and toxins that contribute to obesity. Animal products treated with additives and preservatives like additive phosphates undermine organ functioning and compromise organ’s ability to process fat effectively.

Vegan weight loss achieved by eating a whole food vegan diet effectively reduces weight for several reasons, but we need to know how to go vegan and lose weight. The key to achieving vegan weight loss is not to cheat by eating any meat, dairy, or processed foods. You can eat as much food from this vegan food list as you want to and drink plenty of water and achieve substantial weight loss.

A specific vegan diet plan is not necessary and you can eat as much as you want from the vegan food list (within limits). For example I eat around 2500 calories a days, while many if not most diets try to reduce calorie consumption to below 1000 calories a day. Those diets require calorie restriction because they contain meat, dairy, and processed foods. Eating excessive calories, like 5000 plus calories a day will not likely support health living.

Eating a well balanced vegan whole food diet results in substantial vegan weight loss for several reasons. Vegan whole food does not contain cholesterol. Fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, legumes, and grains do not contain cholesterol. I need to make one thing clear. All fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, legumes, and grains are not equal. The items on the vegan food list alkalize the body, fight disease, and work to bring the body back to a state of homeostasis.
