Vegan Vegetarian – What Is The Difference?
Vegan Vegetarian?
Vegan and vegetarian sound like they should be the same thing but they are not.
Vegan
A far as just the diet is concerned a vegan is a person how does not consume any products derived from an animal or creature. A vegan doesn’t eat any type of meat (including fish), dairy, or eggs.
I said as far as the diet goes because there are ethical vegans and dietary vegans. Ethical vegans also won’t use any products made from an animal, like a leather belt.
Vegetarian
I would seem like the term “vegetarian” implied that a person only ate plant foods, but that is not the case. Vegetarians don’t eat meat (including fish), but may eat dairy or eggs.
There are three categories of vegetarians.
- Lacto-ovo-vegetarians: Eat eggs and dairy products
- Lacto-vegetarians: Eat dairy products but not eggs
- Ovo-vegetarians: Eat eggs but not eat dairy products
Why Do People Go Vegan?
People become vegans for ethical reasons or for dietary reasons. People who become vegan for ethical reasons do so strictly because they feel eating meat or using animal products supports animal cruelty.
Dietary vegans go vegan out of health concerns.
What Do Vegans Eat?
Dietary vegans usually try to eat the healthiest plant foods and tend towards eating more whole plant foods consisting of vegetables, fruits, legume, nuts, seeds, and whole grains.
Ethical vegans may not be concerned with eating the healthiest plant foods and may eat processed plant foods which are not healthy, like pastries.
More: Not all vegan foods are good for you, because their hybridization compromised their nutrition composition. The non-hybrid alkaline plant foods on the Dr. Sebi Nutritional Guide » support health, vitality, and homeostasis in the body.
Why Do People Go Vegetarian?
People usually go vegetarian to increase their fiber intake by eating more plant foods, and to to decrease their saturated fat intake. Some people also go vegetarian out of concern of the disease that is introduced into meat from factory farming processes.
