We Almost Didn’t Make It To This Bike Ride, Arrived Late And Had To Catch Up To The Riders

Well we made it to the Tour de Bronx 2012, just a little late. We missed the 9:30am registration, 25 mile ride departure, and the 40 mile ride departure. I actually thought I was not going to make it the this ride because all my riding partners were dropping out of riding, left and right. Alex and Vicky decided to go the morning of the ride and we rushed out to try to make it to at least one of the two departure times.

We parked on the New Jersey side of the George Washington and rode our bikes over the bridge to the Manhattan. We pulled up by the courthouse by Yankee Stadium and most of the riders had already left. The riders in the 40 mile group were the more experienced riders, and though they had a 20 minute head start on us we still decided to take that route instead of the 25 mile route.

The good thing is that we weren’t the only stragglers out there for the Tour de Bronx, because we didn’t know the route. We met up with a nice guy named Mike, who we rode with for the entire ride. He also had a map of the route, which was a good thing. It was a good thing because the ride was a very personal ride through the Bronx, the very scenic route, LOL! Alex and Vicky are from “Da” Bronx and the knew the area very well, as Alex wanted to stop and show us the building he grew up in and the school he went to (smile). But they didn’t know where were supposed to go and Mike had the golden map (smile).

We did end up catching up to the 25 mile route group, because some parts of the 40 mile route and the 25 mile route were the same. We stayed with the 25 mile route group for a little while and decided to leave them, because it was a little hectic riding with that group. The group’s riders were less experienced and didn’t appear to understand riding etiquette, so it was best to limit our riding with them.

The Bronx has some very big parks which we rode through, and some nice sights. All in all, this was a nice relaxing ride compared to the grueling rides up the Palisades Parkway and Route 9W. The day started out very cool and cloudy, but the sun came out and it warmed up. We had a good time, and met a nice guy named Mike who we hope to ride with in the future. here are a couple of pictures of the days events, and I will post a few more and a video. Stay tuned…
