A Tiny Home A Way To Fight Consumerism
People Who Just Get Life
The life we lead is a life many of us are directed to lead and it not very healthy for us. The system we live in conditions us to be consumers and nothing more. Without realizing it we are caught up in the power of consumerism and we are not happy unless we are pursuing it, and it reality even pursuing it doesn’t really make us happy.
It is all just a well designed construct so we don’t have to look at ourselves very deeply. This mentality is build into everything we do and if you don’t have a personal foundation strong enough to combat it, you will get swept up by its power.
Jay Safer discussed the power of consumerism and the obstacles it placed in the way of people who wanted to build small homes. Building regulations prohibit the building small homes, under the guise of protecting safety. What this does is encourage the supersize mentally that has been drilled into our heads.
Being forced and conditioned into having to have and build a big home fuels consumerism and since it costs more money to build, it puts people into debt. It just continues the consumerism cycle. Many people just want to live off the grid and live simple lives but our socio-economic system makes it difficult to do this.
