Steve Areen’s Beautiful Thailand Inexpensive Dome Home
Steve Areen made the most beautiful low-cost $9000 off-grid Dome Home on Hajjar Gibran’s mango farm in Thailand. Gibran designed the home for Steve, and has built a series of domes at his retreat center in northeast Thailand. The home’s structure cost $6000, and an additional $3000 paid for furniture, doors and screens, stonework, the pond and landscaping.
Normally Hajjar Gibran would have built the home using compressed earth blocks, but they were not available during the build. The home was built using cement blocks and clay bricks which helped speed up the build and the home was completed in six weeks.
You can see the full gallery of photos from Steve’s dome home build on his website, steveareen.com.
The $3000 went to good use as it turned the strong dome shell into a warm and cozy home. The home features large windows to keep the home flooded with light, and also to keep the view of nature always present.
The home has running water for drinking and for washing.
The pond is right outside the gathering space, which keeps the beauty of nature close.
Also, take a look at Steve’s Dome Home movie. This is definitely a case where less is more. Congratulations Steve Areen!
