Rancho Feeding Corporation shipped 8.7 million pounds of diseased beef to vendors.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service had been inspecting the corporation’s processing methods and found them to be unsound.

According to the U.S. agency, Rancho Feeding “processed diseased and unsound animals and carried out these activities without the benefit or full benefit of federal inspection.”

The diseased beef that was unfit for human consumption was shipped to distribution centers and retail establishments in California, Florida, Illinois and Texas.

I guess the investigation was really intricate because it took a really long time to be able to identify that diseased beef was being produced.

I am glad that they were able to finally make a decision to supposedly do something about the diseased beef.

The diseased beef was produced and shipped between January 1, 2013, through January 7, 2014. They all have “EST. 527” in the USDA mark of inspection and have a case code number ending in 3 or 4.

A wide range of beef products were recalled, including beef carcasses, cheeks, feet, heads, lips, livers, and tongues in boxes of 20 pounds and bigger. Forty-pound boxes of veal bones and 60-pound boxes of veal trim are included as well.

I seriously think that most of this diseased beef has already been eaten. Apparently the FSIS also thinks most of the diseased beef has already been eaten.

In the January announcement, the FSIS reported only diseased beef from January 8, 2014 was being recalled, and that they didn’t have a “full federal inspection.”

This seems odd to me. If the diseased beef was produced and shipped between January 1, 2013, through January 7, 2014, why is diseased beef from January 8, 2014 being recalled? Maybe because they know it has already been eaten.

Seriously, this is why I don’t eat meat! Give a plant based diet a try.
