Rabbit Cage Door Latch Free And Simple
Rabbit Cage Door Latch Free And Simple
I needed a rabbit cage door latch for my wire mesh rabbit cage, and I was able to design a simple and free one. I only needed some binding wire, which I already had.
The simple hook latch works perfectly with my flexible smaller gauge 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch wire mesh rabbit cage. The latch sits woven between the wire of the rabbit cage. This keeps the latch in place, and I can still slide it up and down to latch the door.
Latch Design
Start with a piece of binding wire, and use a needle nose pliers to bend the end into a circle. This part is the handle used to slide the latch up and down between the wires of the rabbit cage.
The rabbit cage door latch should be long enough to weave to between three to four rows of the wire mesh. This will give it enough resistance to stay in place.
Bend the end of the binding wire into a hook. It should be around the size of an opening. This gives the door latch hook enough area to firmly hook onto the rabbit cage door. It is also small enough to more easily weave between the openings.

Being in the countryside in Kenya I often work with limited resources which encourages me to keep things simple. So I have to think things through thoroughly.
I was still able to come up with a simple design that worked well. The door latch works perfectly.
