Opening A Coconut The Easy Way With Just A Knife
I normally open coconuts by chopping off the husk at the bottom with a cleaver.
Using a cleaver instead of a machete was easier for me because I could control the cleaver better.
I would chop around the bottom of the coconut until I hit the seed/kernel, and then cut across the kernel to open it to get to the water and the jelly.
My aunt recently visited from Jamaica and put me on to using a knife to cut through the top of the coconut. The bottom is hard, while the top is soft.
It is less dangerous than chopping with a cutlass.
