Luteolin In Vegetables Reduces Breast Cancer Risk
A study[1] published on August 22, 2015 in the Springer Plus journal showed the luteolin phytonutrient found in vegetables has anti-tumor properties and protects against lesions in breasts from turning into tumors.
Data had shown that a combination of estrogen and synthetic progestin used in hormone replacement therapy (HRT) triggers naturally occurring and harmless lesions in older women to turn into tumors.
Estrogen by itself didn’t promote tumor development, but it was the addition of the synthetic progestin that triggered tumor development. The researchers found that the addition of the synthetic progestin attracted blood vessels to the lesions, which feed the lesions components the needed to grow. The lesions then developed stem-cells properties that made them difficult to kill.
Scientistic exposed the effected cells to luteolin in vivo for 24 to 48 hours. The luteolin was able to cut off the blood vessels that were feeding the developing tumor site causing the cancer cells to die. Luteolin also blocked the development of the stem cell-like properties the lesions were developing, which made them more difficult to kill.
