This list of alkaline foods is based on high alkaline foods that help to keep the body in a state of homeostasis. The high alkaline foods support the body in keeping the blood in a slightly alkaline state state around a 7.4 pH.

These alkaline foods exclude some common plant-based foods because they are hybrid foods.

Hybrid foods are made from cross pollinating two or more plants together to make a new plant and fruit. Hybridization may occur natural or through manmade manipulation, which changes the composition and genetic structure of a plant and its fruit.

Though hybridization can happen naturally, and though hybridized plants or fruits maintain some of their original nutritional value, the changes in composition also often harm the composition of the plant, its fruits, and the state of balance in the body.
