Jamaica Series – Ginger – I Noticed It Was Saturated With Ginger Juice

While my father and I were in St. Anns, Jamaica we stayed at a friend of my father’s villa. We dropped of my mother at her sister in Portland, Jamaica and made our way around the beautiful Island of Jamaica.

The name of the villa is Villa LouJo, named for the owners Louis & Josie Reynolds. The view from the balcony is the most beautiful view of the Jamaica coastline and its beautiful aqua blue waters. You can see the cruise ships dock into Ocho Rios daily. There is a flock of white birds that cross in front of the balcony at the same time of the day, every day. You can just sit there and be amazed by the view.

Louis has a wide variety of plants and fruits that grow on his property, and he took the time to explain to me some of the benefits of many of the plants and fruits. Louis explained some of the benefits of ginger in the above video.

The thing I noticed about the jamaican ginger when Louis cut it to make me some ginger tea, was that it was saturated with ginger juice. There was so much juice in the roots, you could squeeze the juice out of the roots with your fingers.

The smell of the juice was also very strong compared to when I buy it from the supermarket here in the States. I shop at Wholefoods often, and their ginger is not as moist and full of ginger juice as the ginger Louis cut for me.

I am not sure if the jamaican ginger was saturated with juice because it was fresher than what I am able to buy, or that the soil in Jamaica just produces better ginger roots. Check here for more information on the benefits of ginger.

Notice the view over the villa’s pool of the lush trees and vegetation that surround the villa. You can also see some of the coastline towards the end of the video.
