Inmates at the Westville Correctional Facility in Indiana worked with the American Cancer Society to raise money for its foundation through its ‘Relay For Life’ event.

Inmates at the facility worked hard to give back to society and helped in a very significant way. The inmates raised $1000 for the cancer foundation and also helped to bring awareness to the fight against cancer.

Superintendent Mark Sevier conducted Relay For Life at Miami Correctional Facility in 2009 and he wanted to continue the work when he was transferred to the Westville Correctional Facility in Indiana.

The inmates complied as a way to honor friends and family who are effected in some way by cancer, and to join in battle against cancer.

Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature event, and is in its 30th year. The event has raised over $5 billion dollars. The money raised by Relay For Life goes towards research, services, patient advocacy, and preventive education.

Northern Indiana’s goal is to reach $1.7 million dollars this year; so far $1.5 million has been raised.
