The Ride to Conquer Cancer presented by Silver Wheaton announced 2,087 participated in the 200km or 124 mile ride from Cloverdale British Columbia to Seattle. This is a annual ride in its seventh year that raises money to support cancer research and programs.

This year 2087 riders participated in the ride and raised $8.4 million for the BC Cancer Foundation, and in seven years The Ride to Conquer Cancer has raised $70 million. The ride happens over two days and commenced on Saturday, August 29 and will conclude on Sunday in Seattle.

Rider will camp out in Mount Vernon and continue on to Seattle Sunday morning. Some riders will turn around and ride back to to the Cloverdale Fairgrounds on Sunday afternoon making it a 400km ride in total.

The awareness and funds the ride brings in is extremely important to the British Columbians because of the high rates of cancer they face. Douglas Nelson, who is President and CEO of the BC Cancer Foundation said:

“More than one in three of us will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in our life. This year there will be a little over 25,000 people diagnosed with cancer and we’ll lose about 9,000 British Columbians to cancer in 2015, that’s why this ride touches so many people.”

Lung cancer is the number one cancer the British Columbians face, followed by colorectal cancer, breast cancer, and prostate cancer.
