Nearly twenty percent of cancers are linked to pathogens like viruses. Seven viruses are directly linked to human cancer. HPV is linked to cervical cancer and skin cancer.[1]
Hepatitis B virus (HBV) and Hepatitis C virus (HCV) are linked hepatocellular carcinoma. Human Herpesvirus-8 (HSHV/HHV8) is linked to Kaposi sarcoma.
Human T-Lymphotropic Virus (HTLV) is linked to human T cell lymphoma. Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is linked to Burkitt lymphoma, nasophryngeal carcinoma, and Hogkin’s disease. MCV is linked to Merkel cell carcinoma.
Polyomaviruses in burgers are a particular concern because they are recognized to be cancer causing, and because they can survive cooking temperatures.
Noble winner Harald zur Hausen in his acceptance speech for winning the Noble Prize put the spotlight on these multiple tumor viruses as being linked to colorectal cancer, lung cancer, and breast cancer.
