Breast Cancer Awareness Month And NBC Connecticut
Breast Cancer Awareness Month begins on October 1 and it has a great advocate in NBC Connecticut. NBC Connecticut is a proud and enthusiastic supporter of the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides for Breast Cancer 5K.
The walks occur an various dates throughout the United States to raise money for breast cancer research and early detection screening. These can be found at the locations in Connecticut:
- Sunday, Oct. 4 in Litchfield
- Sunday, Oct. 18 in Hartford (First Alert Meteorologist Bob Maxon will emcee)
- Sunday, Oct. 18 in New Haven
- Sunday, Oct. 18 in Waterbury
- Sunday, Oct. 18 in Westport
- Sunday, Oct. 25 in New London
The American Cancer Society has held the Making Strides for Breast Cancer 5K since 1993. Over 10 million striders have raised $594 million to fund breast cancer research, services, and programs.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention has indicated that breast cancer is the number one cancer women face, and is the second leading cause of cancer death in women.[1]
