Is Aluminum In Tea Harmful?
Though aluminum is the third most abundant element on earth too much of it is not good for our brains. Though controversial, high levels of aluminum has been linked to the development of Alzheimer’s disease. To be careful we should limit our consumption of foods and medicines containing high levels of aluminum.
Antacids and buffered aspirin contain high levels of aluminum, as do processed foods that contain aluminum as an anti-caking agent, which includes pancake mix and coffee whiteners. Aluminum is also used as an emulsifier and melting agent in cheese.
Studies show that tea plants naturally suck up aluminum from the soil. So is drinking tea harmful since it sucks up aluminum? Once again it appears nature has a way of protecting us in comparison to the harmful effects of aluminum additives.
The phytonutrients in tea plants bind with the aluminum absorbed from the soil making it less bioavailable to the body. This means that most of the aluminum is not absorbed into the bloodstream and ends up being excreted from the body.
