Difference Between A Whole Food Plant-Based Diet And A Plant-Based Diet In The Vegan Diet

Whole Food Plant-Based Diet

A whole food plant-based diet consists of eating unrefined plant foods that include fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, legumes, and whole grains.

The diet excludes the consumption of meat and meat byproducts including red meat, chicken, fish, dairy, and eggs. The whole food plant-based diet also excludes the consumption of refined and processed foods like sugar, oil, flour, pastries, cakes, and pizza.

There are also people who only eat a“raw” whole food vegan diet, consisting of uncooked plant food to preserve as much of the food’s nutrients as possible.

Either way the whole food vegan diet is the healthiest diet because it is loaded with natural vitamins, minerals, healthy fats and protein, and phytonutrients, and it excludes the consumption of pathogens and toxins associated with animal-based and processed foods.

Plant-Based Diet

A plant-based diet or vegan diet can be a healthy or unhealthy diet depending on the person’s approach. A regular vegan diet excludes the consumption of animal products but can allow for the consumption of processed plant foods like bleached flour, french fries, pastries, processed grains, soda, and chemically processed candy.

Though these are plant-based foods, their alteration promotes the development and proliferation of chronic diseases like cancer, diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, and arthritis.

A plant-based diet or vegan diet that is based on the consumption of whole plant foods while excluding the consumption of processed plant foods is the healthier way to eat.

Science has shown time after time that a healthy vegan diet is supportive of health and protective against chronic diseases:
