A Plant Based Diet Offers This Boxer Healthy Living And Increased Stamina
I have heard the whispers, “Is Aq OK? Is Aq sick? Aq has lost a lot of weight? Is Aq malnourished from being vegan?” I am not sick. I am feeling great. My plant based diet has me feeling lovely. I have increased energy and stamina. My plant based diet positively affects my mood, energy, stamina, blood pressure, smile, skin, you name it.
I do have to step back and put the whispers in perspective. I know people whose sicknesses, such as cancer and cancer treatments, have resulted in their rapid weight loss and deteriorated health, so I can understand that association. I do think though that because we live in a society where being overweight and obese has become commonplace, rapid or extreme weight loss is more quickly associated with illness than good diet.
I post articles and videos about my exercise routines: boxing, cycling, power walking…, to show that a vegan or plant based diet does not equate to weakness. My plant based diet has in fact bettered my health, and has increased my strength and stamina. I post these articles and videos on healthy living and exercise as a way to encourage and motivate people, and to share some tools to help us to take control of our lives.
This is a recent video of a boxing workout of 10 rounds of hitting the heavy bag. Each round consists of 3 minutes with a 1 minute break in between, and I condensed the video down to just a couple of minutes. There is enough video to show the intensity of my workout and that my stamina was intact. I am a pretty stiff and hard hitter, which greatly tests my stamina and I think I hold up well. Along with the video being a testament to my health, and a plant based diet that supports strength and stamina, I also hope it shows some aspects of proper boxing techniques. People have their different styles and mine is pretty aggressive. I use my jab a lot to set up my right hand and combinations. I also use my jab to cut my way inside to lay on some heavy body punches. I practice constant movement to make it harder on my opponent to hit me flush, which again tests my stamina.
