Catcha Falling Star Hotel 2012 – Negril Jamaica – Good Times
Jamaica Series – Catcha Falling Star Hotel – Good Times
I had a blast staying at Catcha Falling Star hotel in Negril Jamaica. My disappointment was not having enough time to do all the things I wanted to do. I was there for the Friday and Saturday with my parents to attend a wedding, and Sunday was check out day. The hotel was absolutely cozy. The hotel complex consisted of a small multi-room hotel and several one and two room bungalows that surrounded an outside dining area and bar. When you walk down the steps to ocean level there is an area for sun bathers to relax, and a scuba diving and snorkeling prep section. You stand right there an marvel at the aqua blue waters. I didn’t have time to scuba dive or snorkel, which I would have really liked to do. I inquired about scuba diving but I had to first take a prep course in a nearby pool to get accustomed to the equipment which I didn’t have the time to do, and the instructor also couldn’t fit me in such short notice. Snorkeling didn’t require any preparation, but the lack of time prevented me from snorkeling also. I am planning to go back next year and spend a couple of days at the hotel scuba diving. Yes!
The service at the hotel was excellent, and the food was even better. The hotel is known for its food and ambiance and people from other hotels would come there to dine, listen to music, and chill out. My only disappointment with the food was the lack of some Jamaican staples like boiled plantains and bananas, yam, and cassava. The hotel caters to many foreign visitors and I guess they feel they must balance what they serve. it is a bit of a shame, to go to Jamaica on vacation and not to be able to get boiled plantains and bananas, yam, and cassava.
I do have to say I was very pleased that the hotel served soursop juice. Nice! I drank soursop juice several times a day while I was there. It is a good thing that I got my fill of soursop juice because Hurricane Sandy knocked most of the soursop fruit from the trees across the island, and Catcha Falling Star was the only place I could get it. I don’t know why it is called soursop, because it was plenty sweet and delicious to me.
