Joe Rogan discusses with Bitcoin expert Andreas Antonopoulos the arrest of BitInstant CEO Charlie Shrem.
Charlie Shrem was charged with three counts that including: one count of operating an unlicensed money-transmitting business, one count of money-laundering conspiracy, and one count of willful failure to file a suspicious-activity report.
It would appear that money laundering and failure to file a suspicious-activity report shouldn’t stick. It appears he is being charged because he sold bitcoin to someone who sold the bitcoin to someone else who then bought drugs.
I am curious to see how the first charge is handled. My first thought was “How do you have a bitcoin company and are not lincensed to transfer money?”
