How to Eat Vegan Properly?

How to eat vegan?” Get ready, set, go!

  • No Meat!
  • No Fish or Seafood!
  • No Eggs! (Yes eggs or animal protein that just hasn’t grown up yet)
  • No Dairy (Milk, cheese, yogurt)

There is a little more to this as the question implies, “How to eat vegan properly?” The bullet list answers the question, “What is vegan?” The basic principles of eating vegan is not to eat any animals or fish, and anything that comes from them. But just sticking by these rules doesn’t necessarily represent the best vegan diet.

If you are an ethical vegan and basically only care about not being cruel to animals, the bullet list might be enough for you. If you are a dietary vegan, and are concerned with eating the bests foods to fight of disease, strengthen the immune system, and support healthy living, then a vegan whole food diet is what you want to aim for. Vegans who eat a whole food plant-based diet stay away from junk vegan foods like candy, soda, cakes, and pastries that are harmful to our health.

I am not a big supporter of a diet plan. I have this vegan shopping list and nutritional guide which lists the best vegan foods to eat. From here I just eat as much as I want. You read that correctly. There is no calorie restriction when you only eat from these foods. The only thing that I have found is that is it best to eat a 80/10/10 diet specifically from these foods.

Science supports that we only need 10% of our total daily calories to come from fat, and another 10% to come from protein. The rest should come from carbohydrates found in fruits in vegetables, and not carbohydrates from processed foods. This vegan food pyramid illustrates this idea and explains the health benefits of fruits & vegetables, nuts, seeds, legumes, grains, and water.

These 20 foods are regulars on my vegan shopping list:

1. Bananas
2. Apples
3. Ginger
4. Dates
5. Limes
6. Kale
7. Cilantro
8. Quinoa
9. Chickpeas
10. Himalayan Pink Salt
11. Cayenne Pepper
12. Coconut milk
13. Coconut oil
14. Almonds
15. Walnuts
16. Thyme
17. Onions
18. Mushrooms
19. Oranges
20. Figs
